Water Right Modification Applications
in 2005 on Orcas Island
The following water right modifications can be found on the Dept. of
Ecology page:
http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wr/info/wrats/Wria_sanjuan.pdf
(usually updated on the first of each month)
The total volume affected by the active applications is an astounding
1.1 BILLION gallons. (one acre ft = 325850 gallons)

Please note that one of the sources of water water referred to in #3 is
the
same water as in #1, but there they can be drawn separately.
#4 above has probably been replaced by S1 28226 published by EWUA on
10/19/2004 (below)
I need to verify and update these other Eastsound applications, and
scan copies to assist others who may be interested:
S1-23704 Big Twin Lake 3 CFS
S1 28225 10/19/2004 203 acre ft
S1 28226 10/19/2004 Probably 325
acre ft from Cascade Lake, replacing # 4 above.
The legal notice published in the Islands' Sounder 11/9/2005 includes
Eastsound Water Users Assoc. (EWUA) as a party to one of the
application. Three other modifications were published by Rosario.
These modifications would be in addition to the existing domestic use
water rights Rosario has been granted (existing total of
283 acre ft). The existing domestic use rights are more than sufficient
for their master plan development, and the service area around Rosario
and the Highlands. 283 acre ft is enough to supply 1132 residences
(using DOE's estimate of 0.25 acre ft/yr per residences.)
Rosario/EWUA are to be credited
for publishing in the local paper, not just the legally required
minimum would have allowed them to publish just in the San Juan Journal.
