Is This My Problem?

If you don't live in Eastsound, should you care if EWUA has a water problem?

There are a couple of good reasons to be care:
  1. They are our friends and neighbors. We are a community. We should care.
  2. Perhaps we can help them develop a financially sound plan wih the best benefit for everyone and the habitat?
  3. State grants (more than $500,000/yr of our tax revenues)) are being spent on this.
  4. More of our tax revenue is going to be spent.
  5. New taxes or a  bonds to fund studies, build infrastructure, purchace water rights, and overhead, are likely affect many.
If this were just a problem, EWUA would have to solve it themselves.
But if it is a crisis, then the county and state will bail them out.
Someone recently tried to explain to me that County and State grants are not taxes because the State already had the money.
They lost me on that one.

If we do not keep an eye on the problem, we may end up footing the bill to fix it later (in my personal opinion)

The county "Multipurpose Surface Storage Assessment" explains:
"We did not include in the estimates the costs of project financing and debt repayment.
We are assuming the project(s) would be completed with grant funding from agencies
and no costs of financing would need to be included.
